A wintertime fantasy; gentle candlelight reflected off of ancient white walls

The Santera Mairi, or "Three Temples Pilgrimage," is an over 300 year old event that happens on the night of January 15 every year, where participants make pilgrimage to three Buddhist temples in Hida Furukawa (Enkō-ji, Shinshū-ji and Honkō-ji) to pay their respects.

Known since long ago as a spot where couples are born, young people from across the country visit Hida Furukawa during the Santera Mairi looking for help with their love lives.

Kimono rentals are available, allowing guests to dress up for their pilgrimage (reservation required; please contact the Hida City Tourism Association).
