The center of politics in the Hida region during the Edo period remains preserved to this day

"Jinya" is the collective name of the government buildings from where the region was ruled. This includes the administrative offices, officials' living quarters, warehouses, a courtroom, and more. The Takayama Historical Government House (or the Takayama Jinya) is the only remaining facility of its kind in all of Japan, which makes it an extremely rare and valuable historical artifact.

The daily morning market in front of the Takayama Historical Government House is usually filled with around 50 different stalls and stands, where you'll find a variety of folk crafts in addition to local produce.
