A treasure trove of important cultural buildings

The Hida Folk Village is an open-air museum with roughly 30 buildings characteristic of the Hida region, including the durable gassho-zukuri houses that have endured harsh weather conditions such as heavy snow for generations. The area recreates the atmosphere of a mountainous farming village from an age long past.

Some homes within the Hida Folk Village have items on display, such as tools required for agriculture as well as regular day-to-day lifestyle items. Other homes are used to host different activities or experiences, such as crafts or seasonal events.

Next to the bus stop is the Hida Takayama Crafts Experience Center, where visitors can try their hand at making over ten different types of arts and crafts (making your own sarubobo doll, for example) with no prior reservation required.
