The Hida-Osaka Onsen area comprises three distinct hot springs: Shitajima, Yuya, and Nigorigo.
Shitajima and Yuya onsens are noted for their unique spring qualities. The high concentration of carbon dioxide in the spring water is believed to help regulate the digestive system when consumed. The hot springs are renowned for rice porridge and hot tofu prepared using the spring water.
Nigorigo Onsen is just an hour’s drive from Shitajima and Yuya onsens. It is a hidden gem surrounded by a virgin forest and positioned at the start of a trail leading to the revered Mount Ontake, a sacred site with ancient significance to locals. The onsen is located at an altitude of 1,800 meters, making it one of the highest in Japan.
