A historic kiln awarded "2 stars" by the Michelin Green Guide Japan!
Founded in 1804 by the first Kobei Kato, Kobei-gama is the kiln with the longest history and deepest traditions of any kiln in the famed Ichinokura area. The crafts gallery exhibits works of the 5th, 6th, and 7th generation Kobei masters. Their works of art, which show off their unique style of tradition-meets-innovation, are a wonder to behold! The 6th generation head of the house was designated a Living National Treasure for his distinguished works of art, so you should not miss these displays!
In addition, the museum on the premises houses incredibly valuable materials relating to Persian pottery, which several of the masters specialized in (among other styles of course), and at the kiln you can even try your hand at making your own ceramic masterpiece! It's also a great place to pick up a few pieces of pottery for your home!
