Gero Hot Springs has had the privilege of being chosen as one of the “Top 100 Sustainable Tourist Destinations in the World” at Green Destinations’* annual flagship event in Athens, Greece on September 27, 2022. Gifu’s Shirakawa Village and Nagara River Basin were selected in 2020 and 2021 respectively, making this the third consecutive year that the regions of Gifu have been awarded.

Gero City is surrounded by regions abundant in nature with steep mountains like Mt. Ontake, soaring to heights of more than 1,000 meters. The Hida River runs through the center of the city, while the Maze River flows through its west. It is also home to Gero Hot Springs, its most celebrated feature. Renowned as one of the “three best hot springs in Japan” (Nihon sanmeisen), its mineral-rich waters, which are excellent for the skin, are among the many things that have visitors coming back for more.

What better way than to enjoy your stay in Gero by purifing your heart and mind in one of Japan’s most well-known and beloved meisen, in addition to visiting its many attractions.

While you’re at it, please take in all the goodness that Gifu has to offer as the heart of sustainable tourism!
