The old double-decker gondolas of Shinhotaka Ropeway

Shinhotaka Ropeway, Japan’s only double-decker gondola, has been taking visitors to a height of 2,156 meters (7073 ft) amidst the Northern Alps for about 50 years. As part of their 50th anniversary, they are completely renovating one of their tramway stations and installing new double-decker gondolas.

Features of the new gondolas:
*Expanded area of glass windows・walls to allow for 360°panoramic viewing
*Clear anti-fogging glass that provides more resistance against extreme temperatures
*4 in-car monitors that will provide information in multiple languages

Other cool renovations:
*Complete remodeling of the Shirakabadaira Station and expansion of “The Alps Bakery”
*Multilingual ticketing machines at Shinhotaka Onsen and Shirakabadaira Station that allow for cashless transactions
*The ability to purchase aerial tram tickets online before your visit
