Create a unique herbal blend at a local tea shop!

The Hida area of Gifu Prefecture is about 90% covered in wild forests. Over 245 types of wild-grown herbs grow here. Nestled in a river valley lies Hida Furukawa, well known for the Setogawa canal and its distinct white-walled storehouses. As you walk past row houses and temples, you may come across this unassuming shop. The name? Mori no Megumi, a tea shop with an interesting twist. Here, you can create your own blend of herbal tea, carefully scooping each different previously mentioned locally-sourced herbs into your tea strainer as an employee explains each herbs’ supposed health benefits and flavors.
Taste your creation, and afterwards look around the shop, where they sell assortments of the herbs so you can make your own at home too. It’s an experience you won’t forget! Getting there is a breeze, as JR Hida Furukawa Station is a stop on the Takayama main line!
