The Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road (hereafter “HS White Road”) is a scenic toll road through the majestic mountains of the Hakusan National Park connecting the World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture and Hakusan City in Ishikawa Prefecture. This 33km road is jam-packed with things to do like hiking, old-growth forests of 300-year-old Japanese beech, and a beautiful winding valley that’s home to seven waterfalls of different sizes including Ubagataki Falls – one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls!
The road is especially famous for its autumn foliage from mid-October to early November, when the surrounding mountainsides turn into brilliant hues of orange and gold.
【Warning】 We know the mountain views can be gorgeous, but they are also dangerous because of steep cliffs and falling rocks so please don’t stop your car in places other than designated parking areas.
**** Mt. Sanpoiwa Hiking ****
Mt. Sanpoiwa (1,736mt) is a mountain on the Gifu-Ishikawa border that offers a panoramic view of the Hakusan, Tateyama, and Hotaka mountain ranges.
