On January 15th, Hida Furukawa transforms into a romantic, winter wonderland for the Santera Mairi.

Traditional warosoku candles decorate the streets, including a massive 13kg candle made especially for this event by the Mishima Candle Shop.
The gentle glow of candles and lanterns illuminates the charming town of Hida Furukawa!
Red and white candles are lit along the Seto River as a part of a prayer for love! White candles mean someone is wishing for luck in love, while the red ones are to express gratitude for fulfilled prayers!
Once a chance for young men and women to meet, today visitors make a pilgrimage to three main temples, Enkoji, Honkoji, and Shinshuji, praying for luck in love. Romance and tradition intertwine as hundreds of glowing snow candles and lanterns light up the canal-lined street, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Enjoy as the Festival Square comes alive with central Monzen-ichi market stalls from 12pm to 9pm. Here, you can try a variety of local foods like Hida beef, grilled trout and gohei-mochi.
