A parade hundreds of years in the making! Oct. 9th-10th
Tradition lives on at the Takayama Autumn Festival. As one of the 3 famous festivals held in Japan, a lot of work goes into this festival, being held in Takayama, Gifu! The Takayama festival is held twice in a year, Spring and Autumn, and the atmosphere surrounding the huge parade floats attracts spectators from far and wide! Watch as the centuries old floats are carried through the city, backed by the colorful fall foliage. It’s sure to be electrifying!
This year, the Autumn festival is being held on Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, 10th. The over 300-year-old festival floats have been painstakingly maintained through the years, showing the changing world the unchanging quality of Hida carpenters. The floats are even designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages! Make sure to stick around till nighttime, when the floats are lit with lanterns and paraded brightly, in the darkness of the night!
