This temple is named after Gyoki Bodhisattva who erected a tower on the slopes of the Yoro Mountains after witnessing a devastating flood around 1,300 years ago. This mountain-top temple has remained a holy place to make pilgrimages to and pray for the deceased.
Step through the Sanmon Gate and be welcomed by the mountain with the sounds of water, wind, and birdsong. Breathtaking year-round with cherry and plum blossoms in spring, colorful hydrangeas in summer, vibrant foliage in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter, a visit to Gyoki-ji Temple is an escape into the embrace of nature.
With beautiful gardens and peaceful grounds that offer views of the Japanese Alps to the north, the Chita Peninsula to the south and the Nobi mountains and the plains stretching across the horizon, Gyoki-ji Temple offers a great vantage point to witness the stunning nature of this region.
