The time has come once again for one of Japan’s most beautiful festivals, the Takayama Festival!🏮✨

This beautiful festival is held twice a year, in Spring and in Autumn, so make sure to make time in your travels to catch one of these amazing festivals. The huge parade floats and the atmosphere of this festival attracts spectators from far and wide! Watch as the yatai floats are carried through the city with a backdrop of the colourful autumn foliage. It truly is a sight not to be missed. This year, the Autumn festival, also known as the Hachiman Festival, is being held on Thursday, October 9th and Friday, 10th, just one month away! Make sure to book you travels soon so you don’t miss out! ✨

The festival floats which are thought to have be made in 1718 have been expertly maintained through the years, showcasing the unchanging high quality of Hida craftsmen. The floats are even designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages! Make sure to stick around till nighttime, when the floats are lit with lanterns and paraded brightly, in the darkness of the night! 🏮
If you can’t make it for the festival, don’t worry, you can still see some of these beautiful yatai floats at the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan (高山祭屋台会館) next to Hachiman Shrine.
