Known all over Japan as one of the country’s three most beautiful festivals, the Takayama Festival is an ancient tradition that’s held twice a year, drawing the attention of people all around the world. Catch the autumn festival on October 9th and 10th which happens to fall on a Monday and Tuesday this year.
The elegant decorations and clever designs of the 300-year-old festival floats are a treat for the eyes and a grand testament to the skill and prowess of Hida-area carpenters. The floats are even designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages!
